Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre offers a range of support packages and tailor-made short courses that can be delivered directly within a school, college or business environment:
Inservice Days for Schools and Colleges
Specific programmes can be tailor made to suit differing audiences and the time available. Often schools come together for these Inservice days to help spread the cost and to allow networking.
Consultancy for Schools
We can mentor SENCos (Special Educational Needs Co- Ordinators), set up screening procedures, prepare the school for inspection, advise teachers on creating dyslexia friendly classrooms, make provision in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act and formulate policies for Special Needs, Handwriting, Homework etc.
Business/Voluntary Services/HealthService/Prisons/Armed Forces
We offer staff development for employers and employees tackling areas such as Dyslexia in the Workplace, recruitment, support for dyslexic employees, creating dyslexia-friendly work environments and information about the Disability Discrimination Act.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
We offer CPD for specialist teachers and specialist assessors enabling them to maintain their Practising Certificates.
Study Skills in Schools
Tailor made courses for a whole year group at school (both mainstream and independant) for maximising learning styles revision, reading strategies, creative writing, mind maps, exam techniques and other study skills.
