Update: HAST-2 Standardisation Project (March 2011)

Over 3,500 HAST spelling records from various geographical locations in England (and some parts of Wales and Northern Ireland) have been sent in. What a fantastic response! HADC now has a large, representative sample from which to develop norms tables for students in Year 1 all the way through HE. Obtaining this amount of data has been an incredible accomplishment and we thank you all so much for your contribution to this effort. We are now busy scoring all the record sheets and entering the information in a data file in preparation for statistical analysis. This process will take a few months. Our aim is to create a final version with two, shorter parallel forms. To accompany the test, we are also devising a diagnostic grid for error analysis. In addition, we hope to produce a spelling guide which can be used for teaching. It will be an immense credit to HADC to have an up-to-date spelling test with appropriate norms for use all over the country. Thanks again.
